[Newb thread]How d'ya like my N/Mo
Hello. I am still a newb and need reassurance Im doing alright. My first Me/N tunred out not too effective so in the Me part of the forum I got the advice to go N primary proffesion. I did so and its working alot better and Im also having a blast with the char. Let me know what you think:
Name: Venom Saint
Class: N/Mo
Lvl (current): 6
Skills: Vampyric gaze, Deathly swarm, Animate bone horror, Life siphon, Bane signet, Kirin's wrath, Blood renewal
Atts: Soul reaping: 5+1, Blood 4+1, Death 4
Tactic (Somewhat based on the minion spammer build in the sticky): Summon 2 bone horrors in the previos combat, Run to new combat, Life siphon, Deathly swarm //tactic 1; easy opposision: Bane signet, Kirin's wrath, Possibly summon new bone horror, repeat from Life siphon. //tactic 2: hard opposision: Blood renewal, Vampyric gaze, Bane signet if I'm low on energy, Summon new bone horror, repeat from Life siphon.
The tactic relies on constantly having 2 minions to draw aggro and divide the npc's. As soon as 1 dies I get 6 out of the 10 energy to summon a new one. Then either heal myself or do damage depending on my own health bar. When I get further in the game I will replace bone horror with bone minions and also add Death nova.

Preety good for only a lvl 6 imho.
But level it up to 20 before posting one of these threads, since at lvl 6 preety much all necros run the same stuff.

Awesome! But it's best as a Necro to not spread your attribute points around so much, Choose one - either Death, Curse, or Blood put as many points into that attribute, then put the rest into Soul Reaping. At lvl 6 you probably don't have many options for skills yet - so just do your best to level and advance through the game.
Check out this site. It has a great guide for new players and advise on starting with each profession. Then read this guide written by Moloch Vein.
You already taken the best and most important step - choosing to play a Necromancer, so read the linked guides - play around with the different builds and have fun.

I would like to point out AGAIN that you should always use a full party, not try and solo the game.

Remove Bane Signet, rest is O.K. but i would recommend Rez instead of Bane Signet. Put all into deathmagic, rest in the Soul Reaping and all thats left into blood/curse. This is what i've learnt from my guildies and it works good. I think you should drop Blood Renewal too and get Healing breeze for healing. (can get it at the Post-Searing Ascalon Trainer for 50G and 1 skill point)

at lvl 6 you don't have to focus on any attribute, as you get better choose the type of build that you want. Blood for some dmg and team support. Curses for dmg, hexes, reduce enemy dmg. Death for minions and using corpses to kill your enemies with more dmg.

Do you not have enough death/blood skills? Kirin's wrath is pretty bad at 0 smiting, and you'd be better off sticking in another death or blood magic skill.

your moving in the right direction and still have a lot of the game. youll end up speccing most likely in one line preferably death or curses due to the fact that blood isnt as powerful when you get to the higher levels as the other two

That is, if you want to blow through everything as quickly as possible and minimize your learning experience in GW.
Different players play with different styles.

Honestly if you're not lvl20, you shouldn't really be askin for ways to improve your build, cause chances are you won't have any of the suggested skills and might not even have an elite skill at all. And even if you did, you wouldn't really have the attributes to make them effective. Hit lvl20, and come back with what you got.

If you catch them while they're young then it sets them up for life.

If I were you I wouldn't worry too much about Death Nova. Heroes use Death Nova far better than humans can, typically. Please notice how many corpse exploitation skills you have. Animate Bone Horror, Well of Blood and Putrid Explosion. Remember corpses are a limited resource so 3 skills on your bar dedicated to corpse exploitation might be a little much in some circumstances.
Personally, I'd get rid of Putrid Explosion and Suffering from that build. Maybe Blood Renewal also. Perhaps consider using [[Strip Enchantment] (Available at Lion's Arch Skill Trainer or through a quest reward at Beacon's Perch) instead. Alternatively, you could spec into Soul Reaping, Death Magic and Curses, and use Curses to chuck out conditions like Cracked Armor ([[Weaken Armor]), and Weakness ([[Enfeebling Blood]).

Well, to be honest, I liked the first build better than the second one.
Anyway, at your point of the game, you already have access to some of the holy grails of necromancer spells.
I'm going to assume that you only have Prophecies and no heroes.
Run this:
[build prof=N/Any][Mark of Pain][Barbs][Insidious Parasite][Shadow of Fear][Enfeebling Blood][/build]
Those skills are all available to you at or before Yaks. Run with the Archer henchman, the Monk, the two Warriors, and one optional.

At any rate, I guess I went wrong from the start. My attributes as of now is Soul Reaping 7+2, Blood 7+1, Death 5 and Curses 0(!). All the builds Im being offered here uses alot of curses.

Ok, what Ive been up too. I made it to the Oasis now. Reached lvl 19. I also got some help to jump to Nightfall and get the starter heroes. I havent run Nighfall yet, just picked up the heroes and jumped back. If you dont mind give me some feedback. Basically what Im wondering is: 1. Is my setup pure horror or kinda good? I mean it workes, I get through the missions, but any comment would be nice. And 2. I occationally log on a pvp char to get faction and unlock skills. Is there a skill, signet or elite you see I would deffo need?

I would have thought a Curses build including [[Mark of Pain], [[Barbs] and [[Enfeebling Blood], along with [[Splinter Weapon] from a Ritualist Secondary (if you have Factions) would be a decent build to use with those two physical heroes.
I'm going to assume here you have very little unlocked on the account and only have access to basic skills for heroes.
The Warrior hero doesn't look that bad. Could do to get [[Flail] and [[Enraging Charge] for Koss maybe, but you can't unlock those in the normal storyline (without Balthazar faction) until somewhere around the Gate of Torment. If I were you, I'd do that quest from the guy in Sun Docks to unlock either an Elementalist or Ranger hero, because either will be more useful than the Dervish at this time I think. Also you can get a Necromancer hero from Consulate Docks, which really isn't far into Nightfall...just a few short quests.
The Monk bar could definitely do with a change. Since you're in the desert it's definitely worth your time changing secondary to Monk and capping Word of Healing, or unlocking it with Balthazar Faction for your Monk hero to use. There is a standard, tried and tested, Monk hero build in Section 7 of this thread.

first of all your running melee chars when you get the chance to switch out to necros or paragons. melee arent really that effective with heros
i think there are way more effective monk hero builds. most people suggest the basic hybrid with word of healing and dywanyas kiss along with reversal of fortune guardian or aegis and hex removal and condition removal. as for heros ipersonally think a necro/monk runs this better then hero monk primary..
you might look up sabs three necro build or rahtachs heros setup they are the most popular and are good for most areas

Man, I wish I had used Guru when I was new. This brings back memories. Except, instead of making my way from lv 6 to 19 in a week, it was more like a month of being yelled at by players who used wiki (not that there's anything wrong with that, but it's intimidating when you're just playing a game, unaware of such a resource). Anyway, good job! You're on your way there

Well if you're having fun with the build then dont change it at all but i would like to make suggestions.
Since you're not gonna be attacking from the front, remove all from Blood magic. you're healer hero would be enough.
Next i use this build sometimes and i use a curses build sometimes.
[Animate bone horror][animate bone minions][spiteful spirit][barbs][mark of pain][blood of the master][ressurect]
This build is a lot of fun (to me) You use the meelee minions + barbs + mark of pain to deal tons of damage and put some points in curses for this
and this is my curses build:
[spiteful spirit][barbs][insidious parasite][mark of pain][Enfeebling blood][Weaken armour][Desecrate Enchantments][Resurrect]
its a lot of fun too just max out curses and rest in soul reaping and you're set
